| Every music-related forum seems to have a thread like this, so who are we to dispense with tradition? So what's the last thing you listened to? In my case, it was Pythia's Beneath The Veiled Embrace. Pythia are a female-fronted power metal band from the UK (unusual enough - most of these sort of bands seem to come from mainland Europe or Scandinavia!), fronted by Emily Ovenden (of Mediaeval Baebes fame). Best described as Kate Bush fronting Iron Maiden, with added Gothic flourishes, they really are fantastically good fun. If any of this sounds like it might be your bag, give 'em a try: http://www.pythiamusic.comhttp://www.myspace.com/pythiamusic | |

| One of the very few classic albums from the 90s. Haven't played one this for years - The Verve's Urban Hymns. | |

I don't listen to much reggae, but I've always really liked this album. And I still do today.

Breathing Space - Below The Radar Mostly Autumn - live 2009 (both discs) Robert Plant - Pictures At Eleven Big Country - No Place like Home
Next one in the CD player is going to be Robbie Robertson's same named debut solo album from 1987. It's the one with the excellent Somewhere Down The Crazy River on it. Love that song.

| I've been doing a lot of driving recently, so most of my listening has been done in the car. Being in a lazy mood, I've set the sound system to "mix", so it's being left to its own devices when it comes to choosing the tracks. For some strange reason, it seems to have developed a love of Jackson Browne I've tried switching bcak to normal play mode, and then back into Mix, but even so, the vast majority of tracks selected are still from Mr. Browne. Not that I'm complaining, it just seems more than a little wierd... | |

| Currently listening to some ambient solo bass noodlings for Steve Lawson, streaming from his own website.
Recently-played CDs:
Kyrbgrinder - Cold War Technology. Prog-funk-metal from the drummer-led power trio I first saw at the Cambridge Rock Festival last year. Rocks hard in places, also more melodic than I remember them being live. Good one,
Suede - Dog Man Star One of those occasions where I dig out an old album I hadn't played for many years, and find I'd completely forgotten how great it was.

I know what you mean. The only chance I get to listen to music is in the car and with only 6 CDs in the autochanger, I've spent most of the last few months listening to Panic Room's Satellite & Little Satellite, Dare's Arc of the Dawn, Karnataka's The Gathering Light, The Reasoning's Dark Angel & BS's Below the Radar. So what I've done now is to put every track from 270+ albums onto a 16GB mp4 player but all in one folder so it plays them sequentially in numerical/alphabetical order starting with track 01 from all 270+ albums before moving onto track 02! I tried it on random and it seemed anything but so this way guarantees every track will be played once only and there are well over 2000 of them. I know this sounds a bit 'anoraky' playing tracks in alphabetical order but it just struck me as a good way to listen to hundreds and hundreds of tracks that I like but never seemed to get round to listening to. It also guarantees an eclectic mix every time I drive somewhere, which is quite often (about 22k miles a year). I started about 6-7 weeks ago so at the current rate, I reckon it should last over a year before starting again.

| Sounds familiar to me... as regular readers of the (old) BS forum will know, I set myself the challenge of putting every album (orginal album initially, ie not compilation or live unless first released live) in the order I like them. That forces me to listen to every one and remember why I got it in the first place (or wonder why I ever got it!). I completed that exercise last year but by the end I'd forgotten how I decided about the first one, so I'm going through them all again... 900+ done, 600+ still to go.
So if you see a number against my "listened to" list, they're the positions at the moment. May cause a bit of debate or controversy but it's just a bit of fun (and even more anorak-y) - anyone else fancy doing that?
I also wanted everything on an MP3 player but even with five 20gb players I couldn't get them all on. So I gave up! And I agree random play doesn't tend to be that random - the same ones keep recurring and with 3,000+ on one player that shouldn't happen.
