PostSubject: Introduce Yourself   Introduce Yourself I_icon_minitimeTue Mar 16, 2010 3:56 pm

Well, here we are sat in the virtual pub with our virtual beers, listening to the virtual jukebox and taking turns at the virtual pool table... Time for some introductions, I reckon! And since I've been here longer than anyone else, I suppose it's only fair that I get to go first! Very Happy

So: I'm Dave Cooper, probably better known to most as HippyDave (a school nickname that's kind of stuck - I have very long hair, hence the 'hippy'). I live in Evesham, Worcestershire UK with my wife Christine (married 8 years this October), our neurotic cat Maya, and a massive record collection (over 5,000 CDs at last count). By day I'm an MIS Admin at the local college, but in my free time I do my best to support and promote bands I like that are consistently overlooked by the mainstream and the music media, spreading the word and helping where I can. I'm a keen reader (and writer), and enjoy music (of pretty much any kind), indian food, real ales, DTP (I was part of the three-man team that put together the official All About Eve magazine Ink & Second Sight between 2000 and 2004, and i spent several years working on Marillion's Web UK publications, acting as Editor for the 2004-2005 period), photography, amateur astronomy and various other things, roughly in that order!

As far as Breathing Space goes, I volunteered my services to create a forum for the band back in 2008, after spending some time talking the band up on other forums. Like many of you, I discovered the band via Mostly Autumn. I bought Iain's Breathing Space soon after it came out, having loved Iain's writing as part of Mostly Autumn. It was not a disappointment! I will blushingly admit to only having seen the band live once (soon to be twice, happily) as I rarely venture as far north as the band tend to play!

So that's me... What about you lot? Very Happy

Hi - Eddie here! Just thought that, as this is a shiny new forum, I might as well do what I should have done on the old forum, and that's introduce myself!

Sooo, I'm the wrong side of 50, and when I'm not going to gigs I'm off around the world in search of fame and fortune - both of which have so far eluded me Rolling Eyes

I first got into Breathing Space via - surprise, surprise, Mostly Autumn - and have seen them live, ooh, must be ten times by now. I can usually be found somewhere near the stage, usually doing my best not to knock people's heads off with a white lens or two Laughing

Oh, and although I can't see it myself, people have been known to comment on how I look a little bit like a once-famous dog-carrying "comedian" - hence the avatar! So, if you see me, don't be afraid to say hello - I won't spit at you Laughing

I enjoy reading and writing too, actually, anything creative - I play in a band called The Cakes (I have started writing my own stuff too) and enjoy photography. I also like to travel (Iceland being my favourite visited country), I feel the urge for a camping trip at the moment...I like good films whatever the genre, and I thought I had a big CD collection - 1500 plus, maybe 2000... I don't know about you but I do get frustrated at times when certain bands are ignored by the mainstream, Husky Rescue are the latest band I've fell in love with that should be much bigger than they are.

As for Breathing Space, I bought Iain's first album, being a big fan of his song writing for Mostly Autumn. It didn't blow me away, and I only saw Breathing Space for the first time yesterday - I now wish I'd seen them a lot sooner - it was an excellent gig.

Colin, married to Helen. I listen to all forms of rock music from obscure jazz prog through blues, punk, metal, folk and classic rock....but I hate singers who growl. I help a mate with a free rock magazine, doing interviews and reviews. I also enjoy history and have done re-enacting in the Sealed Knot with my family. We also have two cats that wreck the house, but thats the fun of having them.
Oh I nearly forgot, I like real ale and malt whiskey, so if you see me at a gig feel free to get me a drink lol!

I'm Tim,

Beem a Breathing Space fan since seeing them live at The Roman Baths in York back in 2007, and have seen them stupid numbers of times since then (far more than HippyDave, but not quite as many times as Colin and Helen). Originally got into Breathing Space via Mostly Autumn, went to that York gig after being personally invited by Livvy after an MA gig the weekend before.

I'm paul. I play bass, guitar, keys, trombone... Whatever i can get my hands on!
Music takes up quite a large part of my life... When i'm not playing it, i'm humming it and when i'm not allowed to hum, the fingers on my left hand can usually be seen making a C-G-Am chord sequence!!

Love: My family, sleep and Caesar Salad dressing.
Hate: Bands who think they're too good to talk to you after or before a gig!! Get over yourselves!! *

* Editted, as may be considered confrontational!! lol! drunken

Hey - we're doing this again then...

I'm Trevor and I look after the Breathing Space web site and am one the the Forum moderators. I've also designed (and printed) the last three BS flyers and both merchandise banners, and sometimes help with selling merch at gigs. You'll also sometimes find me taking photos for the BS web site (or mine and Lynda's) and I did my best to video the Bilston gig for possible DVD release one day.

I'm married to Lynda, who you'll sometimes see at a BS or MA gig. I've always been heavily into music -since I studied Pictures At An Exhibition (Mussorgsky) for O level at school at the same time as ELP covered it, followed shortly afterwards by Tomita, to go with Ravels orchestration of it. Hence I discovered prog. I put together a rock disco when I was 18 and played local venues around Reading - this grew to a massive Mobile Nightclub with huge lighting rig (took over 2 hours to set up) and I collected a lot of music of all types. Closed this down in 2003 when Lynda moved me to north Cheshire - just as we were the very first mobile to be featured in Pro Mobile mag (national DJ magazine).

Other than that, I've been involved in politics a lot and was a councillor for 12 years, two as leader of the opposition. I worked in IT (mostly management) and now run a small company developing software to help SMEs manage what they do better/more efficiently.

And I listen to music a lot, have been trying to put all my albums into the order I like them, and have seen Breathing Space (I think) 40 times...!

Hi,
I'm Mike, married to Eileen, and we share our house with 1 Cat, 2 Rabbits, 4 Hamsters, 1 Gerbil, 4 Guinea Pigs and 2 Degus.
We are both huge music lovers, with a large and diverse CD and LP collection, with a lounge full of hi-fi gear to play it all on!
We first heard Breathing Space through our interest in all things Mostly Autumn. We have been M.A fans since 2003, and see them whenever it is possible; IE not as much as we would like!
To be honest I was not that keen on B.S when I first heard them, but have grown to really enjoy their music with each album, especially Below The Radar.
Only seen them live a few times, the last gig being York, back in December. Great gig!
My favourite bands/artists are, Mostly Autumn etc, The Beatles, Dylan, The Smiths, R.E.M, Gene Clark, Neil Young, The Byrds, Richard Thompson, Fairport, Brooce, Kevin Ayers, Yes, The Reasoning, Whitesnake, Deep Purple, John Cale, Duke Ellington,Styx, Britten, Vaughn Williams, Malcolm Arnold, CSN,R.E.M, Ian McNabb/The Icicle Works, Sisters of Mercy, The Cult, Fish, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Kate Bush and Elvis.

It's about time I added to this. I'm Helen, married to Colin - see above. We live near Durham. I was like alot of folks an MA fan first, but have been a BS fan since their first gig in York on 14.07.06. Since then we have seen them over 40 times and when they decided to start a forum, Mark invited Colin and I to become moderators. Clearly we were thrilled. I love classic rock and love to dance to it at local rock nights and even gigs if there is space. I'm all hips and hair on the dancefloor. I believe that we should enjoy ourselves while we can, as life is too short. The Sparnenns can certainly attest to that. We are cat lovers, despite as Colin says our two new cats seem intent on destroying our house Laughing And lately our back lawn has been strewn with dead rodents and birds - urgh! We go to loads of gigs, both locally and nationally and also rock nights. We also like to go walking. We have met loads of great friends through both MA and BS all over the country.

Since Colin has mentioned his tipple - mine is Rose wine, or a nice white zinfandel. lol!

If you see me at a gig, I go by Helen or Hels.

I hope they keep them in the garden. Ours liked to bring them in as presents for us, both dead and alive,
which was a pain! It's stopped now as the cat is getting old and is too busy sleeping to hunt.

Ha,ha, we haven't had many brought into the house so far, but when they do it freaks me out if I'm on my own - shudder. The joys of being a cat lover Wink

Quick update to my "Introduce yourself".

We now have 6 Guinea Pigs, not 4, as on Friday we adopted 2, 3 month old, unwanted brothers, who we have named Holmes and Watson.
Very Happy

Just joined tonight after ordering Coming Up For Air... after listening to all the samples I should have splashed out on all three as a treat!

Found the band purely by chance after googling for melodic rock/metal and guessed it would be up my street.

My interest in rock spans over 30 years starting with ELO in the 70's then moving on up through the likes of Genesis, Wakeman and of course the Floyd.

After being tempted away into the trance scene a bit in the late 90's/early 00's I discovered the Power Metal scene, with bands like Nightwish, Epica, Edenbridge, Kamelot, Within Temptation and many others delivering music with a bit of guts compared to some latter day "rock".

Just from the samples I can see that Breathing Space caters for all my taste, though maybe not so much on the metal side but then I like a balanced sound with plenty of keyboards and melodic soaring guitar solos and not just chugging riffs.

Anyhow I'm really looking forward to my first Breathing Space album and will get the order in for the other two as funds allow.

Welcome Big Vern

Wait until you hear the new sound of BS with Heidi and Adam - different again from the previous incarnations, as Heidi's voice is more "rock" than Livvy's.

I think you should know that there is now a brand new double live CD of Livvy and Bryans last gig with BS, and it catches the atmosphere of the night brilliantly.

I still haven't received my CD or any advice it has been sent out/order received.

What's the best contact process to find out all is okay please?

Edit:

Panic over! It's here, just finished listening and very impressed. Obviously a contrast to the power metal I've got into recently but I love the sound. Nice vocals, keyboards and some superb guitar solos. Currently trying to think of a comparison to other bands - closest I can come at the moment is what a female fronted Marillion might have sounded like, if they hadn't bothered with Hogarth.
