PostSubject: Upcoming Releases   Mon Aug 22, 2011 12:48 pm

If any of you lot are anything like me, you probably find it difficult at times to keep track of all the great new music that's coming out. Here, then, is an attempt to try and make it easier for us all to keep track of things (and therefore easier to spend our hard-earned as well!).

If you know of a new release that you think might be of interest to others, post details here (band/musician, plus title and release date if known) and I'll add them to the list below. Periodically I'll take off the ones that have already been released, so we're just looking at a list of incoming new releases!

02/09/11 - Panic Room - Altitude EP
12/09/11 - Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn Of Events
26/09/11 - Steve Hackett - Beyond The Shrouded Horizon
26/09/11 - Mastodon - The Hunter
26/09/11 - Steven Wilson - Grace For Drowning
13/10/11 - Magenta - Chameleon
13/10/11 - Touchstone - The City Sleeps
19/10/11 - Opeth - Heritage
??/10/11 - Also Eden - Think Of The Children
09/03/12 - Epica - Title TBC

And today's news is that Mark Kelly has joined DeeExpus. Did anyone see *that* coming?

Thick As A Brick 2 is the one I'm waiting for...

And, of course, the first Kyneska album!

Oh yes! Really wouldn't want to miss that. Couldn't persuade Lynda though - even the promise that he'd probably stand on one leg didn't help. It will be interesting to see who the supporting band/musicians consist of though - I'm assuming various past/present members of Tull plus others. But I love TAAB, and TAAB2 should be interesting... (especially as it only comes out at about the time of the gigs).

Thanks, haven't made plans yet but we will probably get the Metro in from Kathy's, it's an easy trip to City Hall.

Ian Anderson wasn't as good as I hoped. Off to DeeExpus with Winter in Eden in Durham on Thursday. The new albums by both are excellent.

Winter In Eden are playing CRF next Friday - at the moment I'm only going Saturday and Sunday, but I'd like to see Martin Barre. HHmm. I've also got the Dee Expus album on my CDs to (perhaps) buy list...

Curved Air were good yesterday. Possibly because of the venue, the sound was a bit flat and (oddly these days) a bit to quiet! Then again the fact that it was all tiered seating didn't help the atmosphere. But the setlist was excellent with most of what you'd expect and more than usual from Air Cut, including Metamorphosis with excellent keyboards. Strange though that I thought his keyboards on Propositions was a bit too random and didn't really work. Overall the band was really tight and Sonja's voice is so much better than many others that are now in their 60s.

Interesting set from support band Cold Flame too - last time I saw them about 3 years ago they had keyboards, now they've replaced that with flute/sax and sound like a cross between Tull and Horslips (think they do a Tull tribute thing too).

Sorry to hear you were disappointed in Ian Anderson. We thought it was a great show -- not at all what we expected, but a pleasant surprise. Ian's voice was quite poor, notably on the old material in the first half, but having the second singer on stage was a good solution to that problem.

And I think the TAAB2 material stands up well against the old work. I hadn't heard the CD before seeing the show, but I have now ordered it.

I'll post some thoughts on IA/TAAB2 live after Sunday! But after one listen I thought the new album was OK - good to see a bit of continuity/flashback but not too much. On the album, I didn't find the almost spoken stuff very convincing - almost like he hadn't got any musical ideas and was rushing it out. It broke the flow which was so good on TAAB1... Still, live, I'll wait and see how it works.

Cambridge Spring Edition is next after that for me, and I'm seriously wondering if I can get down on Friday for Martin Barre - but that means staying another night!

I didn't mean it to sound like I was disappionted by Ian Anderson, Dave, it was about what I expected, apart from the short show Smile
And now that Cambridge springfest is cancelled, I can go to see DeeExpus - Winter in Eden at Maltby on Saturday.

btw TAAB2 is a realy good album, but it took me a couple of listens to get into it. And get The king of number 33 Trevor, it is an excellent peice of work.

I agree with Colin... after about three and a half consecutive listens I had come to the conclusion TAAB2 is quite good. Not top 100 albums, but probably in my top 250 at least! Live I thought the two worked better than they do consecutively on record, but that's probably down to consistency of style live. But there's no doubt in my mind which is the better of the two, but there was never likely to be I guess.
